This course introduces students to the fundamentals of the HVAC industry. Students gain the technical and safety skills needed to begin preparing for careers in this high-demand trade.

👨‍🍳 Culinary Arts / ProStart I (2 credits, double-blocked)

The first course in the Culinary Arts pathway prepares students for careers in the hospitality and foodservice industries. Students train in both professional cooking and business management practices.

Culinary math, use of commercial kitchen equipment, and organization skills
Hands-on catering projects, field trips, and guest chef presentations

This advanced course builds on skills learned in ProStart I, with expanded experiences in culinary and hospitality management.

💻 Cybersecurity (PLTW) (2 credits, double-blocked)

This course introduces students to the tools and concepts of cybersecurity while encouraging responsible and ethical computer use. Students learn how to identify and fix vulnerabilities in systems to protect personal, organizational, and national data.

This course is for students interested in exploring a future career in education. Students gain foundational knowledge while actively engaging in classrooms and service-learning projects.

Classroom observations across Kindergarten–12th grade, including Special Education
Hands-on projects and practice teaching opportunities
Preparation for careers in education through the Educators Rising curriculum

📖 Educators Rising II – Teaching Internship (2 credits, double-blocked)

This course provides direct classroom teaching experience under the guidance of a mentor teacher. Students apply skills learned in Educators Rising I while completing a professional internship.

Highlights:

Assist a mentor teacher with classroom management and instruction
Work with small groups of students and lead a full lesson
Complete performance-based assessments to demonstrate teaching skills
Opportunity to earn Dual Enrollment credit with Southeastern Louisiana University (EDES 1500)
Students earn Internship credit in addition to Educators Rising II credit

🚑 Emergency Medical Responder (2 credits, double-blocked)

This course prepares students to respond effectively in medical and trauma emergencies, leading to certification as an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR).

Training in first aid, trauma response, and emergency medical skills
Skills check-offs to demonstrate competence in real-world scenarios
Earn American Heart Association BLS Certification

⚙️ Engineering Design I & II (4 credits, double-blocked, year-long)

This course introduces students to engineering concepts through hands-on design projects and professional tools. Students gain experience across multiple branches of engineering while applying problem-solving and teamwork skills.

Exploration of mechanical systems and electrical control systems
Hands-on projects using professional software and industrial-quality equipment
Field experiences with industry professionals
Reinforcement of written/oral communication through presentations and reports

This course introduces students to Geographic Information Systems (GIS), a powerful technology used to collect, manage, and analyze location-based data. Students learn how to use GIS to create maps and uncover patterns that support decision-making in real-world situations.

This course introduces students to the exciting careers in hospitality, tourism, and event management. Students gain hands-on experiences while building transferable business and customer service skills.

Real-world projects, including Cafe Days, banquets, fundraisers, festivals, and walking tours

🧬Human Body Systems (PLTW) (2 credits, double-blocked)

In this course, students explore how the systems of the human body work together to support life and health. Examining topics such as identity, communication, movement, protection, and homeostasis through interactive and hands-on learning.

Highlights

Design experiments and investigate body structures and functions
Build organs and tissues on a skeletal manikin
Analyze real-world medical cases and step into the role of biomedical professionals to solve “medical mysteries.”
This course also includes the opportunity to earn American Heart Association BLS Certification.

🔧 Instrumentation I (NCCER) (2 credits, double-blocked)

This course introduces students to careers as Instrumentation Technicians, who maintain and repair the equipment that controls automation in plants and factories. Students gain technical knowledge and hands-on practice across multiple industries.

Training in hand and power tools, electrical systems, safety practices, metallurgy, and fasteners
Organized into 12 NCCER modules with written and performance assessments
Opportunity to earn the NCCER Instrumentation Level I Credential (IBC)

🚛 Introduction to Logistics & Supply Chain (1 credit, single period)

Students learn how products and information move from suppliers to consumers through logistics and supply chain management. This course combines classroom learning with real-world experiences.

🔨 Industrial Maintenance Mechanic – Millwright (2 credits, double-blocked)

This course prepares students for careers as millwrights, skilled craft workers who install, repair, and maintain heavy equipment used in industries.

Hands-on experience with modern industrial tools and machinery

🏥 Medical Assistant I & II (8 credits, double-blocked, year-long)

This course introduces students to careers as medical assistants through both classroom instruction and clinical experiences. Students develop healthcare knowledge and patient care skills as they prepare for professional certification.

Highlights:

Study of medical terminology, anatomy & physiology, and patient assessment
Training in office-based skills and clinical procedures
On-campus labs, health screenings, and healthcare facility experiences
Dual Enrollment through River Parish Community College (RPCC) 13 hours

Medical Assistant II - This continuation of Medical Assistant I focuses on advanced skills in patient care and nursing services. Students gain real-world experience while preparing for national certification.

Highlights:

Training in phlebotomy, pharmacology, safety procedures, restorative services, and personal care
Emphasis on communication, mental health, and residents’ rights
Completion of 40 clinical hours working directly with patients
Preparation for the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) Exam
Dual Enrollment through River Parish Community College (RPCC), 13 Credit Hours, and a CTS in Medical Assisting

🩺 Patient Care I (2 credits, double-blocked)

Do you enjoy helping others and have an interest in healthcare? Patient Care I allows students to explore the medical field through hands-on learning and real-world experiences. In this course, students learn the skills needed to care for patients in hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, and other healthcare settings.

Students will practice important healthcare skills such as:

Taking vital signs
Assisting patients with daily activities
Infection control and safety procedures
Communication and teamwork in healthcare
Basic EKG and phlebotomy concepts
Proper medical documentation

Through hands-on labs, simulations, and real-life healthcare scenarios, students will build confidence, professionalism, and compassion while preparing for careers in the medical field. This course follows the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Patient Care Technician/Assistant standards and prepares students to take the Certified Patient Care Technician/Assistant (PCT/A) certification exam. Students also have the opportunity to earn industry-based certifications in AHA CPR/BLS and PCT.

This program prepares students for careers as process operators in refineries, power plants, and chemical plants.

PTEC I – Introduction to Process Technology: covers operator responsibilities, safety, workplace communication, and industrial equipment
PTEC II – Plant Safety, Health, and Environment: focuses on maintaining safe and sustainable operations
Guest instructors, field trips, and access to industry-approved equipment
Dual Enrollment with River Parish Community College: PTEC 1013 (3 credits,) PTEC 2033 (3 credits) Intro to CPTR (3 credits)
Students earn a Career and Technical Certificate in Process Technology
