Chef Patrick Phelan

Welcome to Culinary Arts. This is my 18th year teaching and my 18th year at the Satellite Center. I am looking forward to a great year of exploring culinary arts and foodservice management with my team members through academic investigation and hands-on learning.  We will strive to impact our community in a positive way using all of the skills we learn, as well as those we already possess.

I worked in the restaurant industry for 20 years in a number of capacities.  I still work in the industry to keep up with current trends to better educate my team members. From my first job as a busboy through my position as a pastry chef, I worked in all types of jobs in both the front and back of the house and learned all of the skills that are necessary for success in the food service industry.  I look forward to sharing my experience with all of my team members to help them explore this industry which is important to the state, local, and national economies.  Our industry is the largest employer in the state of Louisiana.  Over 14 million people are employed in our industry in the United States.

We use the National Restaurant Association's ProStart curriculum.  I am nationally certified to teach this curriculum and attend professional development twice per year to keep current on national standards.  Team members who take my class have the opportunity to become ServSafe (food safety and sanitation) certified as I am certified to teach the content and proctor the exam.
